Press Release: The Share Winter Foundation Will Partner with Coombs Outdoors
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (JACKSON, WY, December 15, 2019) - The Share Winter Foundation will partner with Coombs Outdoors beginning in the 2019/2020 winter season.
The Share Winter Foundation is a grantmaking organization that strives to make winter sports accessible to a more diverse community. Share Winter’s primary focus is on learn-to-ski programs, helping to make skiing more accessible for kids around the country. Their goal is to get 100,000 youth on snow, every year, by 2028.
“For Coombs Outdoors, the past several years have been focused on building out infrastructure, developing a clear and replicable program vision, and creating a sustainable business model,” said Mary Erickson, Executive Director of Coombs Outdoors. “The Share Winter Grant is a real validation of the work we have done, and we are grateful to Constance and her team for seeing our potential. Share Winter is making a significant financial investment in Coombs for the next 3-5 years, while also providing us with resources and strategic support to help us improve our efficiency and impact.”
Besides a significant amount of financial support, Share Winter also works directly with grantees on program logistics and marketing, helping to set them up for success in the long run.
“The significance of this partnership cannot be underestimated,” said Erickson. “With Share Winter on our team, Coombs Outdoors will be able to effectively reach more low-income families in Jackson as well as becoming a leader in the non-profit winter sports industry.”
Coombs Outdoors will serve over 170 participants in learn-to-ski programs this winter, with 222 total kids on snow for the 2019/2020 season.
About Coombs Outdoors
Jackson Hole is known for its natural beauty and world-class outdoor sports. However, there is a large population of children from low-income families who do not have access to the same opportunities as their peers. In an effort to create a healthy community where all our children thrive, Coombs Outdoors provides year-round outdoor programming for youth from Kindergarten through high school graduation.
Coombs Outdoors begins with basic instructional programs that introduce kids to a variety of activities to spark a passion for the outdoors, then adds a cohort-based mentoring component in middle school to help youth build deep relationships with their peers and trusted adults, and finally, works with high school youth to serve as mentors and coaches to younger kids, explore careers and college, and become passionate outdoor enthusiasts.
Coombs Outdoors’ goal is not to create world-class skiers or rock climbers, but to develop world-class people ready to embrace the future with confidence.
